Google Wallet - Online PaymentA short run through on Google Checkout: I’m a BIG fan of its’ products, be it on my computer, my Mac, or iPhone. The great thing about Google products are it’s generally free of charge, and I feel safer entrusting my privacy and ¬†confidential information with a brand that’s backed by a big company.¬†For online payment, Paypal had been a leader, and a big market share for a long time. Google Wallet, previously Google Checkout, looks set to be the next new big one :)

There have been increasingly number of complains against PayPal, such as the unnecessary and high transaction fees, and navigating through their interface is a chore. But that’s always happen when there’s only a player in the industry – they set the rules and if you use them, you have to obey the rules. For consumers’ sake, I hope to see more players and options to choose from.

What’s Interesting about Google Wallet?

Paying at the Store

The Google Wallet mobile app makes your phone your wallet. It securely stores your credit cards and offers on your phone (security is a big issue and concern to me). When you check out at brick-and-mortar stores that accept Google Wallet, you can pay and redeem offers quickly and conveniently just by tapping your phone at the point of sale.

Paying Online
It works the same way as paying at the store. Google Offers can also be sync to your mobile phone/gadget, and you can log your app with a password (Google Wallet PIN), so that in the even you lose your phone, you have time to change your password, and take the necessary security measures. However at the moment, as I understand the recurring payment system is in beta stage, so merchants can’t really implement it for stable commerciality purposes.

Furthermore, not many consumers are using Google Wallet as a payment system, as merchants are not making the move to jump from their already established Paypal gateway/billing system.

But I’m going to start using it as an alternative to Paypal.
